EXPRESSIVE / PERSONAL WORKS

Translation portfolio

Two original classroom texts, with translations and a short note on each choice.

A harbour at dusk

At dusk, the harbour folded its silver light into the windows.

暮色中,海港把銀色的光摺進窗裡。

The verb “folded” becomes「摺進」to retain the image of light moving like fabric.

A quiet room

A cup touched its saucer, and the quiet room seemed to listen.

杯子輕觸茶碟,靜室彷彿側耳傾聽。

「輕觸」keeps the movement gentle.「彷彿」retains the tentative personification.
